If ever there was a place to
remind one of his "smallness" this is it. The sheer
magnitude of scale is difficult to wrap one's mind around
much less capture on film. Even so, this print
represents one of my efforts in trying to do just
that. I photographed the scene late one afternoon using the
Mamiya RZ67 with a Sekor 50mm ULD wide angle lens, tripod
mounted and mirror up to expose the scene on Kodak Portra
160 VC negative film. It was very cold and the light
was diminishing fast in the shadow areas. I feel
fortunate to have been able to capture the scene.
Indeed, it is as the title so aptly says, "A Place Beyond
Words." |
