This image was photographed
mid-afternoon to avoid shadows from the canyon walls which
preclude good exposure both early and late. I used the
Mamiya RZ67 Pro II with the Mamiya Sekor 50mm ULD wide angle
lens (tripod mounted, mirror-up, and cable release) to
expose this scene on Kodak Portra 160VC negative film.
This is both a surprising and at the same time breathtaking
place. The trail leading to it is about 3/4 mile and it
traverses flat desert when all of a sudden the desert
disappears and far below the Colorado snakes
it's way around this perfect
horseshoe. |
