Mountain streams like this
one in Tennessee have always possessed a magnetic attraction
for me. They flow with power and seem forever in a
rush but at the same time they possess a profound sense of
peacefulness. I photographed this image in the early
morning on an overcast day which I believe accounts for the
film recording so many of the intermediate tones and
imparting a "softer" sense to the print. This scene was photographed using the
RZ-67 with the 140mm Mamiya Sekor lens stopped down to f/32
on Kodak Portra 160 VC negative film. The exposure was
long allowing the water to paint as it flowed yet the water
above the flow remained crystal clear. Indeed a
beautiful expression of simple elegance.
