This image was photographed late
one afternoon in Zion Canyon Utah. In this region
during late afternoon as the light intensity diminishes and
shadows lengthen the tonal range and range of color
gradation also become greater creating an infinite and ever
changing number of hues and textures. I captured this
scene with the Mamiya RZ67 using the Mamiya Sekor 500mm APO
lens (tripod mounted, mirror up and with a cable release) on Fuji
Velvia transparency film. I recall that the wind was a
monumental problem in keeping the camera and the
huge
lens steady to make the necessarily long exposure. As
I have reflected on my stay in this region the one word
which I believe best describes Zion is Majesty. It is
indeed a majestically beautiful place. |
