This image was photographed
in the Great Smokey Mountain National Park early on an
overcast morning. I had been searching for this sort
of composition with large trees, dark vertical trunks and
bright leaves for almost three years. On this outing I
used the view camera almost exclusively because of the
intricate detail it captures and in order to be sure the
trunks of the trees were perfectly vertical. View
camera adjustments allow the user to correct distortions
with camera movements. I used the Toyo 4x5 GX view camera
with the Schneider 240 APO-Symmar lens to expose this scene
on Kodak Portra 160VC negative film. It is printed on
Glossy Paper Photo Weight in order to gain the greatest
optical density range possible and thereby capture all the
gradations of color and tonal range represented in the
image. This was a powerful scene and yet quiet ...
almost reverential. Soli Deo Gloria. |
