I photographed this image in
the winter of 2004 near Gatlinburg in Tennessee. I found this
composition along a mountain stream early one morning when it
was very cold. Intricate patterns were produced as the water
and trapped air moved beneath the ice. I used the Mamiya RZ67
with the Mamiya Sekor 140mm Macro lens, tripod mounted and
mirror-up, to expose this image on Kodak Portra 400VC negative
film.
