This image was taken
early one morning in Portland Maine of the Portland Head
Light in a very thick fog. I used the Mamiya RZ67 with
the Mamiya Sekor APO 500mm lens (tripod mounted and
mirror up with hood) to expose this scene on Kodak
Portra 400VC negative film. I recall how in the thick
fog the ship horns on the passing ships seemed muted by
the fog. I also recall how very difficult it was to
focus the big lens in that fog to capture the long
exposure. After having visited this spot it is easy to
understand why so many hold these old lights in such
high regard and why so much lore surrounds them. |
