This image was photographed
on an overcast day by the Merced River in Yosemite National
Park. All the streams were swollen full and the Merced
was no exception. I timed the shutter speed in such a
way that the fast water would paint on the film producing a
“brush stroke” effect. I used the Mamiya RZ67 with the
50mm wide angle lens tripod mounted and mirror locked up.
I made several exposures at various shutter speeds to
capture the motion in the rapidly moving stream. This
was done in order to capture the sense of power conveyed by
the stream as I stood listening to it's roar echoing down
the mountain. The streams were estimated by Park rangers to be running at
200% of normal capacity when I was there. |
