Patterns in the sand and the
interplay of light and shadow hold a
powerful fascination for me. Each dune I have visited seems
to have a different character and appearance. These dunes at the Great Sand
Dune National Monument in Colorado were no exception. Unlike
White Sands in New Mexico which are extremely white due to
their composition these at Great Sand Dune National Monument
have a red cast. They
pose, at least for me, quite a task to expose properly as
well to scan and print the image without loosing tonal range
or color balance. I used the Mamiya RZ67 Pro II with the
Mamiya Sekor 50mm lens (tripod mounted and mirror-up) to
expose this scene on Kodak Portra 160VC negative film. |
