This scene was
photographed shortly after day break in the spring of
2005 at Moro Bay California. I was fascinated by
the play of light in the fog as the sun rose in the sky.
It seemed as if every few minutes the hue and tonal
range would change and present a different perspective.
Another aspect of this image which caught my attention
was the extreme range in light intensity between the
high key area of the boats barely visible in the fog in
the upper right aspect of the image and the detail in
the shadow region of the boat house in the lower left
sector of the print. I used the Mamiya
RZ67 with the Mamiya Sekor 50mm wide angle lens to
expose the image on Kodak Portra 400VC negative film.
The camera was tripod mounted and mirror was locked up.
I used the camera's prism finder to meter the scene. There is a unique beauty related to early morning fog
and especially so along the ocean.
