This image was
photographed
mid-afternoon on a trail which runs the rim of
Yellowstone canyon. I used the Mamiya RZ67 with
the 50mm ULD wide angle lens (tripod mounted and mirror
up) stopped down to f/32 to make this exposure. It
is rare that one sees a scope of such magnitude in one
scene. The print was extremely difficult to
produce in that the exposure range is so great from the
almost stark white clay in the foreground to the almost
black areas in the forest on the horizon. In
addition, the wind was ferocious on this rim and I
literally had to hold on to a branch of a tree to remain
steady enough to set up the equipment between gusts.
The film used was Fuji Velvia transparency film.
As is so often the case the print depicts what I saw
there much better than any words can express. Soli
