This image was photographed
in central Alabama shortly before the break of day on a
morning with heavy fog. I recall setting up my tripod
in almost complete darkness and it was quiet cold. I
used the Mamiya RZ67 Pro II with the Mamiya Sekor 50mm ULD
lens (tripod mounted, mirror-up and with cable release) to
make this very long exposure on Kodak Portra 160VC negative
film. I recall that as I fumbled around in the
darkness that even though the cold was uncomfortable in a
palpable way it was also comforting to know that neither the
alligators nor snakes had yet come out from winter sleep.
To me this print embodies a haunting beauty difficult to
describe with words. |
