Notes: |
This dramatic scene was
photographed late one afternoon in Zion Canyon using an
Mamiya RZ67 with
a Mamiya Sekor 500mm APO telephoto lens mounted on a tripod (mirror up)
on Fuji Velvia transparency film. It was cold and the wind
made it difficult to steady the camera even on a tripod.
Other prints photographed the same afternoon include "The
Place of Eagles," "The Climber," as well as "Strata" which
is seen here. It was from a great distance that I
photographed this image and the long lens compressed the
various elements into a ten degree angle of view. If
you will note carefully at the upper rim of the gray-white
layer in the left and central aspect of the print there is a
line of trees which are barely visible revealing some sense
of the scale represented in this print. This is a majestic place. |
