This image was photographed in the spring of 2005 in the Armargosa Desert near Death Valley National Park.  It was late afternoon when I photographed the scene and I used the Mamiya RZ67 with the Mamiya Sekor 50mm wide angle lens, tripod mounted and mirror locked up, to make the exposure on Kodak Portra 160VC negative film.  I pulled out every trick I had to maximize the depth of field in order to try to convey to the viewer a sense of “being there.”  This entire region possesses a unique beauty and especially at this time of day.
