This image was photographed
on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. The pine
evidences the extremes of the North Rim consisting of
extreme heat in summer, extreme cold in winter and fierce
winds year round. I am told that this area can be
trapped under six feet plus of snow for many months of the
year. I confess I found myself with a
sense of admiration for this survivor as I photographed it.
These small weathered trees seem to grow out of sheer stone
or at least a crack in such stone. I used the Mamiya RZ67 with the Mamiya Sekor 140mm lens to
capture this scene on Kodak Portra 400VC negative film. |
