Title: Twilight at the Painted Wall

  Notes:

The scale of this print is so massive that when I first view it I have to step back and study closely the detail of the trees and fields on the horizon to apprehend the true perspective.  This print was photographed in the late afternoon in the Black Canyon of The Gunnison in Colorado.  The “Painted Wall” is that virtually vertical sheet of marbled black stone forming the opposite wall of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison river.  I am told that the pale white mythical appearing gargoyle-like figures seen on the face of the “Painted Wall” are made of marble veins which run through the black stone. They do appear as if they were painted there by some mythical artist.   It is for certain an imposing place.  I used the Toyo 4x5 GX view camera with the Schneider 240mm F5.6 Apo-Symmar lens to expose this scene on Kodak Portra 160 VC negative (sheet) film.
